New Self, New World
Recovering Our Senses in The Twenty-First Century
Guest Speaker: Philip Shepherd
New Self, New World challenges the primary story of what it means to be human – a story that leads us to live in our heads, absorbed in our own anxieties. Called a “profound and original masterpiece” in the foreword by Andrew Harvey, renowned mystical scholar and founder of the Institute for Sacred Activism, New Self, New World shows how the patterns of thinking we inherit from our culture divide us not only from the body, but from the world itself. As a result, we inhabit a shattered reality, and take our sense of personal isolation to be a normal state.

The Way I See It, Revised and Expanded 2nd Edition: A Personal Look at Autism and Asperger's
“Every library, large or small, needs this book on its shelves. Every school, large or small, with the responsibility of educating children with autism or Asperger’s needs the guidance this book offers. . . . Last, and certainly not least, every parent will find within these pages golden nuggets of advice, encouragement, and hope to fuel their day-to-day journey through their child’s autism. . . . The wisdom she offers through this book and its personal reflections on autism will, I’m sure, ring true for many more decades to come.” --Ruth Christ Sullivan, first elected president of the Autism Society of America
In this revised and expanded edition of the 2008 bestseller, Dr. Temple Grandin, the world's most famous person with autism, reveals the secrets of her success! But this isn't a mushy memoir. Temple gets down to the REAL issues of autism—the ones parents, teachers, and individuals on the spectrum face every day. Temple offers helpful do’s and don’ts, practical strategies, and try-it-now tips, all based on her “insider” perspective and a great deal of research. Temple delves into: How People with Autism Think, Early Intervention Strategies that Work, Behavior Explanations and Solutions, Alternative Medicine, Employment Ideas, and much more! |

Treehugging for Capitalists:
With a dramatic cover featuring a crisp black suit and an author who’s a successful venture capitalist, The New Entrepreneurs isn’t your typical environmental book. Andrew Heintzman uses a slew of stats and entrepreneurial success stories to show that there’s big money in developing technologies and techniques to protect Canada ’s ever-dwindling natural assets. He should know: as someone who’s researched and invested in eco businesses for the past 8 years, Heintzman has had a front-row seat in watching the green economy pick up steam. So we asked him: who would you like to send copies of the book to keep the momentum moving forward? Here are the bedside tables he’d target: Required Reading Chapter 5: An Energy Superpower. Heintzman sees a different kind of business opportunity in the oil sands — as a technology and innovation asset, not a resource.

Planetary Cycles - September 2010
The sun in Virgo brings refinements to enhance our lives
We enter the month with Mercury, the planet symbolizing communication, in Virgo and traveling retrograde (apparent backward motion). Whatever we have been working on recently goes through a review period now, during which we access what is viable, and what needs improvements. We also take this time to carry through with completing any unfinished business in our lives. While Mercury is retrograde in Virgo, there is more emphasis on our analytical functions, our power of assessment is heightened, and we can see clearly what may be worth streamlining and improving. If you have the sun, moon or rising sign in Virgo, this will come more naturally, but for the rest of us, it will require heightened awareness.
